Flood Protection Barriers for Texas Tax Office

17/10/2019 USA, Flooding flood ark team in Texas

We recently installed flood barriers at a tax office in the city of Victoria, in the heart of Victoria County, lies just 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. South East Texas is a humid subtropical zone and summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F (38°C). The city and county are used to dealing with low pressure systems spiralling in from the coast – including the occasional hurricane in season.

Severe Flooding Event

One of these systems (lacking the windspeed to be a named hurricane) dumped a lot of rain on Victoria between June 18th and 21st 2018. Some of the storms on the morning of the 19th June unleashed between 5 and 6 inches of rain per hour! South east Texas was in the middle of a severe drought, but rain falling on drought-hardened ground actually makes the threat of flooding much worse.

Several streets in the city of Victoria were drowned under a significant amount of water as drainage systems struggled to deal with the deluge. One building that was affected by the floods was a local tax office. After the clear-up, they were determined to put in place proper defences that would keep floodwaters out in future.

Only the Best

Texans are well known for liking the biggest and best of everything. And it didn’t matter that the best flood barriers were manufactured 5000 miles away in Norfolk, England. The team at the Victoria tax office wanted Flood Ark barriers because they have been put through the most stringent tests available – including undergoing hurricane testing in the United States.

If any home or business owners in the United States want to improve the flood resilience of their properties with a proven method of defence, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can call our office on +44 1603 879977 or email any questions you may have to info@floodark.com
