At Last! Improved Drainage System for Norwich Road

01/07/2019 Flooding, United Kingdom flood threat on norwich road

The main road through Strumpshaw, Norfolk, is Norwich Road and it has long had a reputation for bad flooding. Without fail, heavy rainfall on the thick clay soil presages flooding and road closure. This proved bad for business for the Huntsman pub which was forced to close for nine months following major floods in 2016. Norfolk County Council is only now putting in the improved drainage system that should limit the impact of future floods.

As part of the refurbishment of the Huntsman following the 2016 floods, the landlord and landlady asked us to install four Flood Ark flood barriers. Two were installed to protect the entrance doors at the front and side of the side of the pub, with a further two installed in the walkways of a new perimeter wall.

Businesses can’t necessarily rely on their local authority to put in place flood management measures for the area containing the business premises. Sometimes it makes good business sense to take matters into your own hands. An investment in property-level flood protection now, could prevent a far-costlier repair and refurbishment bill further down the line.
