The heavy and persistent rain that the whole country has experienced over the last week has caused a bank of the River Steeping to collapse, sending floodwaters through the historic market town of Wainfleet in Lincolnshire. Around 100 properties have flooded and 580 homes have been evacuated as more rain is due this week. The military have been assisting with shoring up the breach.
Our support to the #Wainfleetflooding, @LincolnshireCC and other agencies continued for a third day today, as the situation improves and our work is making a difference. It's been a huge effort from all involved so far, and we stand ready to continue if tasked. pic.twitter.com/Wpp1mAQBoA

The emotional impact of abandoning your home and your possessions as the floodwaters approach should not be underestimated. Having a flood barrier system in place, allows an evacuee to secure their property against the floodwaters whilst they seek personal safety with friends or in a community shelter. Knowing the barriers are protecting your home will bring a little peace of mind during this period of disruption.
Repairing and restoring a house after an inundation of floodwaters is an expensive and time-consuming process. If your home has ever flooded, you’ll know this is an experience that you are anxious not to repeat. Five million UK properties are identified as being at risk from flooding. Making your home flood resistant by installing features such as flood barriers, non-return valves and smart airbricks is a sound investment.
Nobody can predict where and when the next major flooding incident will take place, but we can guarantee that there will be many more. Is your property prepared?
